Buying guide · Answer

Where can you buy supplements in Johannesburg?

In Johannesburg you can buy supplements from the national chains (Dis-Chem, Clicks, Wellness Warehouse, Sportsmans Warehouse), online from Takealot and Faithful to Nature, or direct from brand shops such as USN, NPL and Biogen. We did not verify individual Johannesburg store stock, so compare cost per dose and check each product's label and seller.

The same national retailers that serve the rest of South Africa cover Johannesburg, and nearly every brand ships by courier. We did not verify store-by-store stock in Gauteng, so treat the list below as the retailer types our October 2026 research confirmed.

What do typical prices look like?

As of October 2026, Nutritech Creatine Monohydrate 300 g is R250 at Clicks (R4.17 per 5 g). USN BlueLab Whey 1 kg is R689 at the USN shop, and NPL Platinum Whey Plus 1 kg is R490 at the NPL shop. Prices of the same tub can differ by 40-80% between sellers, so check at least two sources. Read Dis-Chem vs Clicks vs Takealot and the cheapest place to buy.

Does Highveld climate matter?

Johannesburg's dry Highveld air is kinder to powders than Durban's humidity, but summer afternoons still heat parked cars and delivery vans. Do not leave supplements in a car boot, and store tubs sealed in a cupboard. See how to store supplements in South African heat.

How do you avoid fakes and overpriced products?

  • Buy from an identifiable seller with a South African importer or manufacturer address on the label.
  • Check batch numbers, seals and expiry dates.
  • Treat prices far below the market, missing nutrition tables or unbranded tubs as a prompt to investigate; see where to buy supplements online safely.
  • Be sceptical of in-store advice that pushes stacks; read can you trust gym shop advice.

A note on tested sport

If you compete in drug-tested sport, buy only batch-tested products from traceable sellers and read what third-party tested means. Under-18s should not rely on shop advice for performance supplements; speak to a doctor or dietitian.
